Windmill Cottage is situated between the towns of Weymouth and Dorchester and both are accessible by a marvellous bus service which runs every ten minutes. Weymouth is linked to the island of Portland by a causeway and was the centre for the Sailing Olympics in 2012. It is a hub of activity for anyone interested in watersports - Sailing, Diving and Windsurfing are all available - and it is the home of the National Sailing Academy. Weymouth itself boasts a blue flag beach in a beautiful sheltered bay which is very popular with holidaymakers.
Walking along the Jurassic Coast is a must for anyone keen on seeing what is arguably the best coastal scenery in England.
Dorchester is 3.5 miles inland from Upwey and is a bustling market town made famous by its links with Thomas Hardy. Far From the Madding Crowd was filmed in this area, and those keen on Hardy can visit Bockhampton - the village where he lived for many years - see his house and the churchyard where Hardy's heart is buried. When he died his ashes were buried in Poet's Corner in Westminster Abbey, but on his instruction his heart was buried in his beloved Dorset. Dorchester is a very vibrant county town which has a regular market on Wednesdays, and plenty of restaurants, shops and cinemas.

After a days sightseeing, trekking, swimming or sailing you would be most welcome to head back for a cup of tea in my quiet enclosed cottage garden.
Dorset has something for everyone. You won't be disappointed!
